Church Updates

In response to the recent robberies in Chinatown, CIBC has reached out to some of the victims to lend support, prayers and to offer some financial assistance. In addition, we presented a donation to support the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce’s efforts to upgrade surveillance cameras for Chinatown merchants especially in key locations. Please continue to pray for safety for merchants, visitors and those who live in and around Chinatown. Pray that the police will be able to apprehend and bring these criminals to justice without others being hurt.

We would like to strongly encourage our congregation members to get involved by writing (email) to our Oakland City Council President and her team regarding the Oakland Chinatown safety. Here is their contact information:

You can remind them of how:

1. Violence in Oakland Chinatown has been escalating, at first robberies and now shootings.

2. The police officers are doing their best, but they are severely understaffed due to budget cutbacks and defunding efforts.

3. These robbers have become more and more brazen, now attacking people in the middle of the day on a busy street.

4. Ask that they give the police the needed manpower and restore their budget to keep Oakland safe.

5. When they are eventually caught, that these criminals be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Week of March 7, 2021

Church Updates

Remember to advance your clock by one hour: Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 2:00am.

A personal message from Pastor Philip Gee:

Eight years ago, you kindly welcomed me and my family with open arms to serve at CIBC.  You prayed for us until we found our home after visiting 100 houses, nurtured us as we adjusted to Bay Area living, celebrated with us when our son graduated from high school, mourned with us when Kim lost both parents, and showed great patience, graciousness, and forgiveness when I made my share of blunders.  We have truly enjoyed every moment here.  However, we have sensed that God is closing this chapter of our ministry and has opened a new chapter in our lives.  It was purely sensing that the Lord was leading us in a different direction.  We will be returning to the church we previously served, the Davis Chinese Christian Church, where I will serve as their English pastor.  Our last Sunday will be Easter, April 4th. Our first Sunday in Davis will be May 4th. In between, we will move and rest. Unfortunately, the COVID situation prevents us from saying good-bye personally. We certainly will miss the IBF- no one does IBF like CIBC!  Many try to imitate but no one can compare!  We will miss Oakland Chinatown, inexpensive Chinese food.  Most importantly, we will miss fellowshipping with all of you.  We would garner your prayers as we transition, especially finding a home.  What will happen next?  The church leadership just learned about our plans a week ago so please give them time to evaluate the needs and plan accordingly.

There will be an online farewell event for Pastor Philip Gee and family on Sunday, April 18th at 1:00 PM.  The link will be posted on the church website along with a link to an online virtual farewell card where you can leave personal thoughts, photos and messages.  The event will be held on Zoom and there will be some limited time for brothers and sisters to express their appreciation during the Zoom session.  During the entire month of March, we will be taking a love offering for the Gee family. Any and all donations to online giving (in March) towards the Love Offering/Benevolence category will be collected for the Gee family.  If you do not use online giving, you may send a check (payable to CIBC) to the church with a note that it is for the Gee family.
